Important things to note with hydraulic pumps.
Like we mentioned above, A hydraulic pump failure will cripple your productivity, sometimes the best prevention of this happening is to add inspecting your pumps to your planned maintenance.
Loud, unusual noises emanating from the machinery is one of the first signs of a failing pump that you may notice. Most of the time, an unusual noise is due to a phenomenon called cavitation which is caused by bubbles which effectively implode causing damage.
Hydraulic pump cavitation.
Even mild cavitation is enough to generate loud noises even though hydraulic pumps are designed to muffle them.
We would suggest that if you suspect cavitation, you address the issue immediately as it will cause premature failure of the internals of your pump.
You also need to keep an eye out for external leaks on your pump. If you spot leaks on the outside of the hydraulic pump, the problem is significantly more serious than an internal leak and hydraulic pump is critical need or repair or replacement. One key issue with external leaks is they reduce the system’s pressure which can increase its temperature.
A maintenance schedule that covers an inspection of hydraulics will allow you to pick up on issues early and hopefully reduce overall downtime.
Hydraulic pump seal replacement.
While it is possible to replace seals yourself I would caution that if not done correctly, you will inevitably experience a seal failure again. It’s also a slower proposition to do yourself generally due to not having the correct tools to replace glands and seals efficiently.
